New Head Office
- Thanks to the generous contribution of the Hungarian Government, staff working in the REC’s head office moved from their cramped premises in Budapest to a new location in Szentendre, radically boosting organisational capacity. With ample office space, accommodation for fellows, interns and guests, as well as a conference centre, the REC now had capacity to raise services and project support.
- A new charter was signed by 21 governments and the EC.
- REC staff now numbered 62 people from 17 countries.
- The REC led the drafting of the Budapest Declaration on the Sustainable Use of Biological Resources, adopted by the 250 participants at an international scientific conference during NATUREXPO Budapest.
